Beautiful castle with an interesting past.

It is assumed that the three castles on Lake Kastorf represented the political and cultural center of the Tollenser people.

The Wildberg Castle Wall is located in the municipality of Wildberg on the eastern shore of Lake Kastorf. It consists of a smaller main castle and two arched outer castles and was built in the 7th or 8th century. The castle complex has been repeatedly renovated and expanded over time. Together with the castle wall island on Lake Kastorf, these castles presumably form the political and cultural center of the Tollenser people.

The castle is located near the original border between Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania, which ran a few kilometers south and east at the Kleiner and Großer Landgraben. The St. Petri church in its Gothic brick construction, as we see it today, was built in the 13th, 14th and early 15th centuries. In the time before that (12th/early 13th century) there was a simpler building, probably made of wood, but on a very solid fieldstone foundation. Even today, when excavating on the church square, you come across countless boulders of various sizes. In former times the place where the church stands was called Burgberg.
