It is pleasant to cycle along the Moselle on the old railway line. But you are not alone there...

The landscape on the cycle path is very varied. Since both sides of the Moselle are easily accessible, you should plan to change sides every now and then.

The Moselle region may not be the largest, but it is one of the most famous and, above all, the oldest of the 13 wine-growing regions in Germany. It begins at the German-Luxembourg border and ends about 240 kilometers later, just before the mouth of the Moselle in Koblenz.

12月 12, 2021, Hauptmarkt Trier
The main market of Trier is the central and one of the largest squares in the city. It is located in the historic city center directly in front of the cathedral city in today's Mitte/Gartenfeld district. The most important urban commercial streets come together here. In 958, Archbishop Henry I equipped the main market with the market cross as a symbol of sovereignty. The main market was a place for selling goods and trading in the medieval city.

7月 14, 2021, Hauptmarkt Trier
In 958 Trier received market rights. The main market became the center of medieval Trier with the Steipe, the festival hall of the city council with direct access to the city church of St. Gangolf (to be reached through the small baroque gate on the south side - the church itself is completely surrounded by houses and stalls), the official city hall Ellen Maß (reconstruction) on the Steipe, pillory (reconstructed offset in the southern corner of the market), access to the cathedral, access to the Jewish quarter and access to a total of six streets.

7月 14, 2021, Trier Cathedral (St. Peter's Cathedral)
The Trier Cathedral of St. Peter is not only the oldest church in Germany, but also the oldest building in Germany, which has served its original purpose as a bishop's church without interruption in its 1700-year history and is still used today. From its oldest building core, the "square building" from the 4th century, to the present of the 21st century, all phases of the history of construction, art and belief in Europe can be traced back.

2月 18, 2021, Porta Nigra
The Porta Nigra is not only the most famous Roman city gate in Germany, but also the symbol of the city of Trier. A visit to Trier without a visit to the world cultural heritage known as "Pochta" in Trier is simply incomplete.

Easter candlestick: a “pillar of light” around 2.30 meters high, cast from patinated bronze, richly decorated with biblical figures and motifs - a 21st century contribution to the cathedral's furnishings, inaugurated on November 13, 2014 The base of the candlestick is formed by the four rivers of paradise: Euphrates, Tigris, Gihon and Pishon. Above the base, the column is divided into three floors; on each of these floors four figures are shown forming the column. First floor: Prophets The prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel are depicted here. Second floor: the four evangelists Luke, John, Mark and Matthew Third floor: four church fathers Ambrose, Athanasius, Jerome and Augustine “all have a connection to Trier” The core of today's cathedral - the Roman "square building" - as the top floor at the same time reminds us of the heavenly Jerusalem with its twelve gates. During Easter time it carries the Easter candle as a symbol of the risen Jesus Christ - and the hope of the whole world for liberation from the power of death.

2月 6, 2021, Porta Nigra
When the Romans in 170 AD laid the foundation stone for the Porta Nigra, they could hardly have foreseen its success story. After all, the city gate was only one of four in Trier at the time - and of many in the entire Roman Empire. Today, around 1850 years later, the “Black Gate” is the best preserved Roman city gate north of the Alps and THE attraction when it comes to Roman rule in the areas of today's Germany.
