The mocking nickname "Hankel" for Herrstein's residents derives from the formerly common first name Johann-Karl, which was shortened to Hankel. While the people of Herrstein associate the term with self-confident and educated citizens, neighboring communities view it critically, which is also reflected in the "Hankel Fountain": An adult figure depicted as "Hankel" is being teased by a boy and splashed with water.

A great place, beautiful old town with half-timbered houses and the medieval path dream loop is wonderful for hiking

If you visit at the right time of year, you can experience the full splendor of the cornflowers in bloom. But it's also beautiful here, you have a wonderful view all year round.
