In the 14th century the city was surrounded by a curtain wall with three gates: the lower or Bamberg gate, the upper or Kronacher gate (both still preserved) and the Mühl or Coburg gate. Of the five defense towers, only the Red Tower remains today. A large part of the city wall, which was renewed several times in the 17th century, was demolished in the 19th century, mainly during the construction of the railway in 1844/45. A nice place for a stopover.

The Kemitzenstein near Kümmersreuth is a real highlight for those who like rock formations, you can explore them, climb or use the via ferrata. There are plenty of places to sit and relax. Parking is available behind Kümmersreuth at the Kaider rest area.
