The Main, the most important river in northern Bavaria, does not have a single source, but arises at the confluence of the Red and White Maines. While the White Main springs in the Fichtelgebirge below the Ochsenkopf, the Red Main begins its run in the southern district of Bayreuth.
West of the city of Kulmbach below Schloss Steinenhausen, the two source rivers to the Main, which in contrast to the South Bavarian Danube, flows into the North Sea.

The Mainz confluence is a beautiful and interesting place to linger and discover.
Located between Melkendorf, Frankenberg and Katschreuth, the Main confluence is easy to reach, whether by bike, mountain bike or on foot.
You can also hike here in a leisurely stroll from the “Mainaue” recreation area, ie the “Kieswäsch”.
