Oberkotzau Castle. Information: First mentioned in 1234. Destroyed several times, including during the Hussite Wars. By the 18th century, the complex was largely in ruins and was rebuilt in the Baroque style. Remnants of a tower and the chapel are still visible. The castle complex in its present form was built after the town fire of 1852. It now houses, among other things, the Oberkotzau Castle Residence, run by the Diakonie Hochfranken (a social welfare organization).

Zedtwitz Castle is first documented as a castle in 1502. At that time, the Lords of Zedtwitz sold the building to the Lords of Feilitzsch. During the Thirty Years' War, Swedish troops were quartered in Zedtwitz Castle, which led to Croatian troops plundering the building a few years later. For financial reasons, the castle had to be sold. However, it wasn't until 1718 that construction work resumed, giving the building its Baroque appearance. During the Second World War, the owners of Zedtwitz Castle were expelled. The Zedtwitz Castle site, also known as Zedtwitz Water Castle, refers to a vanished medieval moated castle in the center of Zedtwitz. The former Zedtwitz Castle was the ancestral home of the "von Zedtwitz family." Today, it houses a nursing home.

The hilltop castle of Uprode was built around 1320 by the Knights of Sparneck to secure their ancestral lands. The Swabian League destroyed it on July 11, 1523. With the destruction of their castles, the people of Sparneck also lost influence in their ancestral territory. The castle has been a ruin ever since. Remains of walls, foundations, and moats are visible in the forest. Scattered pieces of the demolished tower are also still clearly visible. There has been no safeguarding of its existence to date, so the ruins continue to deteriorate.

We would have expected anything here but not such a beautiful property... 😀
