Schmerwitz Castle dates back to the 18th century. After the expropriation it was used as a training center for the Soviet Army. The house later housed the central school for combat groups. It has been empty since the fall of communism.

The castle chapel is one of the most important medieval sacred buildings in northern Germany. Unfortunately closed.

Ziesar Castle is one of the few surviving bishop's residences in Brandenburg. The Niederungsburg is located on the southern edge of the small town of Ziesar, on the eastern bank of the Kobser Bach. The 110 hectare castle park with its rich stock of foreign trees has been declared a landscape protection area. Another source distinguishes a 13-hectare core area, which is adjoined by a 113-hectare forest park.
