The Fehmarnsund Tunnel is intended to connect the island of Fehmarn with the Schleswig-Holstein mainland and to pass under the Fehmarnsund as an immersed tunnel. This project is very controversial but will be implemented soon as part of the construction of the Fehmarnbelt crossing to Lolland (the EU's highest priority)....

The 963-meter-long combined road and rail bridge crosses the 1300-meter-wide Fehmarnsund and is 23 meters high above mean water level. For shipping, it offers a passage of 240 meters wide and a clearance height of 23m above sea level. The steel structure is 21 meters wide, of which 6 meters were used by Deutsche Bahn. The span of the arch is 248 meters, and its highest point is 45 meters above the roadway. The arch is approximately 268.5 m long.
