This mighty gate with its large roof, located directly on the Rotenburger Weiher, is very impressive. It is always fascinating to think that all of this was built without cranes, machines or computers... what an achievement.

A moment of shock on August 9, 2023: Flames and a massive column of smoke emerge from one of the city's landmarks, the Nördlingen Gate Tower. The fire was presumably caused by a technical defect. The fire brigade quickly got the fire under control. However, rooms in the museum were destroyed.

The Nördlingen Gate, built around 1400, is adorned with a stepped gable from the 16th century with half-shells. Storks nest on the top of the gate tower.

Directly southwest of the Nördlinger Gate, an ancient, worn stone staircase leads up to the top of the wall and to the battlement directly above the gate, from which the entrance to the city was defended against enemies.
