Ansbach's old town is a great starting point for your tours. Cafés and restaurants await you in the center, along with its historic houses. If you have enough time, a visit to the Residence and its castle is worthwhile.

The frequently changing art exhibitions in the cathedral are also worth seeing. The contrast between the Gothic cathedral and modern art is very attractive.

From the 13th to the 17th century, the cathedral was the burial place of the Hohenzollern family. Several high graves can be seen in the central nave, and further graves are in the crypt.

Pompous Old Town Facades In the Baroque and medieval Old Town, as well as on the stately promenade and the impressive Karlsplatz, you can sense the princely splendor of bygone days. When you venture into the Old Town, you can feel both the Middle Ages and the Baroque. Admittedly, not in the picturesque half-timbered romanticism – the buildings were redesigned in the Baroque style with the support of the Prince, as befits the royal seat. But they still exist: the winding little alleys and the hidden courtyards. The courtyards in particular enchant with their special flair and allow a detour into the past. You just have to discover them. The aura of aristocracy, on the other hand, can be felt again at Martin Luther Square and, of course, in the Court Church of St. Gumbertus. The church shines in the simple splendor of the Rococo style, which developed a special language in Ansbach. Here, too, the insignia of the Prince's power cannot be missed.

The square was once home to a cloister and other buildings. Today, the well house of the healing spring still stands there. The square is surrounded by the monastery church and other monastery buildings. Each building has an information board, so you can be your own tour guide. The church is completely closed in January and February. It's best to check beforehand or just look from the outside (like I did 🤨).
