Rothenburg's town hall with its magnificent Renaissance façade consists of two parts: the Gothic double building with the town hall tower dates from between 1250 and 1400. It was recorded by the painter Friedrich Herlin on his panels on the main altar of St. James' Church. The local architect Leonhard Weidmann designed and built what is probably the most impressive building of this style era north of the Alps between 1572 and 1578.
