On the wine island there are great paths in the vineyard and viewpoints with fantastic views of the surrounding area and into the distance.

With 232 hectares of vineyards (2017), Sommerach is one of the larger wine-growing communities in the Franconian wine-growing region. With the Sommeracher Katzenkopf, the community has one of the most famous vineyards in Franconia.

The Kitzingen Old Main Bridge is one of the six medieval Main Bridges in Lower Franconia. The bridge was first mentioned in documents in 1300 when it replaced a ferry. The inner bridge gate was also the eastern gate of the city wall. The original construction with twelve arches had to be adapted to shipping in 1955 and partially modified. The stone sculpture on the bridge is by Richard Rother (1925). The Old Main Bridge is closed to motorized traffic and offers a wonderful view of the city. In summer, locals and guests enjoy the city shop on the bridge. (https://www.stadt-kitzingen.de/Tourism/Seeing Values)

I particularly liked the route from Nordheim to Sommerach and back. Vineyards everywhere and in the most beautiful colors in autumn. The little town of Sommerach is also very charming. All the outdoor areas of the pubs were beautifully set and the inner courtyards of the winegrowers were beautifully decorated for autumn. Unfortunately, you can't drink a 'Schöpple' everywhere :-)

Imposing fortress above Würzburg. 🙂 In the early 8th century, Marienberg, which has been inhabited since the late Bronze Age, was probably home to a fort of the Franconian-Thuringian dukes with a church, which was raised in 741 to become the first Würzburg bishop's church. From 1200 an unusually large castle was built, which was expanded and expanded in the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. The storming of the castle by the Swedes in 1631 in the Thirty Years' War prompted Johann Philipp von Schönborn to surround the Marienberg with a ring of mighty bastions, which significantly characterize the appearance of the castle. In 1945 the fortress burned down almost completely, and reconstruction lasted until 1990. The Marienkirche, whose origins go back to the year 706 AD, the 40 m high keep and the well house with the over 100 m deep cistern are impressive testimonies to the more than 1000-year history of the Marienberg Fortress. The 1,300 square meter princely garden, which was restored in 1937/38 according to plans from the early 18th century, is accessible from the castle courtyard.
