Very nice historical mill and the landmark of Artlenburg. Carl Brügmann put the first mill into operation here in 1833. She became a victim of the flames due to the brakes running hot in a storm in 1889 and was soon rebuilt. The current octagonal Dutch windmill stands on a square raw brick base. It is still owned and operated by the Brügmann family. Since 1954 it has been working almost exclusively on electricity, since the windmill has finally had its day. Today the Artlenburger Mühlenverein takes care of the Dutch mill. Visits are possible on request from H. J. Yes, the path is beautiful! I also cycle the route on a road bike. So it is basically possible. You have to pay attention to the surface, and also to oncoming traffic - it is the Elbe cycle path after all. There are erosion valleys leading to the water that you have to cross, so even short stretches are steeply uphill. For someone who wants to get ahead quickly, I recommend the cycle path on the B5. Anyone with a bit of stamina who wants to cycle along a beautiful forest path above the Elbe will like the route.
