Level T4 ascent, difficult route for experienced hikers, but with few exposed sections and easily passable. Caution is advised in late summer due to snow.

The town is of Etruscan origin and dates back to the mid-7th century BC. The current name derives from the nearby iron-rich water source.

Pizzo di Claro or Visagno, at 2727 m, is a beautiful, little-frequented peak located on the border between the Swiss cantons of Ticino and Grisons. The climb from Piz de Molinera is more demanding than that of the east side.

Great summit, not busy, I liked the climb from the south (coming from Piz de Molinera), summit in view, some scrambling, more challenging than the east side, which for me is more of a suitable descent route (with sticks)

Magnificent views of Mount Matro and the Leventina and Blenio Valleys.

There is a large telecommunications system with a transmission tower on the Matro (the associated cable car is only available to staff) and this is no coincidence, as the summit is one of the elevations with the most extensive, unobstructed views all around. Regarding the name: “Matro, mater” are names for foothills, elevations that are not too high. Also called “Poncione Strecuolo” and “Pizzo di Sobrio” in old maps and texts.

Certainly an exciting place, I was there in the off-season and therefore very quiet.
