The reservoir was built between 1976 and 1979 to prevent flooding and inundation in the Kinzig valley.

This 1-kilometer descent above Rüdigheim is a great section for road cyclists who appreciate flowing lines and a controlled pace. With a consistent gradient of up to 6%, it offers just the right amount of speed without being technically demanding. The route is gently winding, with wide, visible bends – ideal for letting the bike flow and leaning confidently into the corners. No tight turns, no surprises – instead, a gentle rhythm that creates a true sense of flow. The asphalt is smooth and grippy, in very good condition throughout – confidently rideable even at high speeds.

The former castle now houses a private school.
