A newly revised exhibition since 2023. It features bird migration, some information about the national park, and a focus on the two nature reserves Kronenloch and Wöhrdener Loch. Open from Easter to October, Friday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free. Outside of regular opening hours, the exhibition is open when the "Exhibition Open" sign is displayed. The exhibition has been managed by the Wattenmeer Conservation Station since 2023 and is a National Park Station.

In Dithmarschen between Büsum and Friedrichskoog lies the Meldorfer Speicherkoog, which was embanked at the end of the 1970s and includes the unique nature reserves “Wöhrdener Loch” and “Kronenloch”. In the small exhibition at Meldorfer Hafen, the Wattwurm National Park Station, all questions about the Speicherkoog are answered. To the left of the building there is also a rustic adventure trail.

No matter which direction you approach Meldorf from, you will be greeted from afar by the "Dithmarscher Cathedral". We are lucky🍀, the door is still open for us because they are still cleaning up for a baptism. St. John's Church, popularly known as the "Dithmarscher Cathedral", is one of the most important medieval church buildings on the west coast. It was built between 1250 and 1300 as a three-aisled basilica with a three-bay transept and a flat-roofed choir. The cathedral received its current exterior appearance after a major fire in 1866. The medieval shape of the interior has essentially been preserved. Before the fire, the church looked more massive, the tower was lower and squatter. Since the organ 🎹 is also being played, we stay in the church a little longer and listen to the music.

The Renaissance house in the "Meldorf style" is located at Süderstraße 18. The house with a brick gable and lavishly carved half-timbering bears the year 1588. The inscriptions are in Low German.

The Speicherkoog stretches over 5,000 hectares along the Dithmarscher North Sea coast. The land was gained by diking in 1978. A good fifth of this is distributed between the Kronenloch nature reserves in the south and Wöhrdener Loch in the northwest. Nature and landscape protection is organized here in cooperation between the national park administration, the tourism association, sheep farms and NABU. Beautiful, historic place where you can stop and linger for a while. The historic town center is worth seeing, and if you learn a little about Meldorf's history, the visit will be even more impressive. It's worth it!
