Nienhagen Ghost Forest The "Ghost Forest" is a popular destination for nature lovers. It was declared a nature reserve in 1943. With a width of approximately 100 meters and a length of approximately 1,300 meters, it is part of the Nienhäger Holz forest area. Locals say the forest is located "where the wind mows the grass," because the grasses, bent by the sea breeze, look as if they are all the same length. The oaks, beeches, hornbeams, and ash trees are 90 to 170 years old. They are relatively far apart. Little to no shrubbery grows between them—plenty of space for light and shade. For decades, the salty, humid Baltic Sea wind and the numerous storms have shaped the appearance of the forest. You can reach the nature reserve on foot from the seaside resort of Warnemünde. There is a beautiful path above the cliffs.
