Eulenbroich Castle was built around 1200 as a moated castle and is located in the Sülz river valley, very close to the center of Rösrath. Over the centuries, the building has served many different purposes: as a grand bourgeois villa, as the mayor's residence, and as a retirement home. Since 2003, the Eulenbroich Castle Cultural Association has managed the castle. Today, Eulenbroich Castle is open to the public for concerts, corporate events, markets, seminars, conferences, weddings, communion celebrations, and birthday parties.

The castle has a full calendar of events and the museum will be open again from June 8, 2023. But even so, the castle is a worthwhile destination. Further information at http://www.schloss-homburg.de/cms200mfsh/home/.

Beautiful spacious castle. The XL evening editions of Bares-für-Rares occasionally take place here.

During excavations, the remains of an initial castle complex dating back to the 13th century were discovered. Nothing is known about its inhabitants. The Staël von Holstein family is first documented as the owners in 1401. They resided in the moated castle until 1762 and constructed the second castle complex, comprising a manor house, stables for livestock, servants' quarters, an outer bailey, and moats. In 1762, Johann Werner Freiherr von Francken purchased the property from the neighboring Venauen estate. During the von Francken family's ownership, the medieval castle was transformed into a charming Baroque-style palace. When the Cologne industrialist Robert Rohr acquired the aristocratic residence, he first had to undertake extensive restoration work before he could establish his official residence in the palace as mayor of Rösrath in 1851. He served as mayor for life until 1878. In 1908, Emil Biedermann moved to Eulenbroich and established a leather factory for the company Stark & Biedermann in the building of the former Rösrath clay works, Benfey & Co., right next door. He commissioned the Cologne architect Hermann Eberhard Pflaume (nephew of Hermann Otto Pflaume) to transform the small castle into a stately bourgeois villa. In particular, the harmonious addition of a conservatory to the manor house on the east facade was designed according to his plans. After the Second World War, the complex served, among other things, as a boarding school for Belgian schoolgirls who attended the neighboring Venauen House. From 1955, the building stood empty for an extended period until 1969, when a private retirement home was established there. After the municipality of Rösrath took over the property in 1981, it required extensive renovations before being opened to the public in 1984.

A first fortified castle house was built in Eulenbroich between 1200-1500. The Staël von Holstein family, who lived in the moated castle until 1762, built the second castle complex with a manor house, stables for the cattle, apartments for the servants, an outer bailey and moats. In 2003 the Kulturverein Schloss Eulenbroich e.V. took over the management and use of the house. Nowadays, marriages are officially concluded in the former aristocratic residence and then celebrated in the castle, as well as art exhibitions, theater performances and literary discussions. The castle is managed by Schloss Eulenbroich GmbH (sources: https://www.schloss-eulenbroich.de/geschichte.aspx and https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_Eulenbroich)

The castle is used privately. But it's in great condition. The church is right next to it.
