In 1903, a mountain hut belonging to the Erzgebirge Association on the summit of Bärenstein formed the nucleus of today's guesthouse and hotel with an observation tower. Ten years later, the hut was expanded into a lodging house. After reunification, the mountain house, now run again as a family business, was reconstructed and reopened in 1992, and renovated again in 2021. The mountain hotel, located at an altitude of 898 meters, offers 22 rustic rooms and, as a special attraction, a 27-meter-high observation tower. On September 11, 1944, the tower was damaged during the air battle over the Ore Mountains ("Black Monday"). Bullet holes can still be seen in the spiral staircase.

The Greifensteine are a rock formation in Saxony, known for climbing and mountaineering, among other things. Their highest point reaches an elevation of approximately 731 meters above sea level. The area around the Greifensteine is a nature reserve.

Wolkenstein Castle is a high medieval castle that was first mentioned in documents in the 13th century. The town and castle stand on gneiss rocks 80 meters above the Zschopau valley. Wolkenstein owes its existence to the "Berggeschrei" (the cries of the mountain), that is, the discovery of the ore deposits. The settlement and ore mining is older than that of Annaberg-Buchholz.

The deep valley with exposed gneiss is the result of the erosion of the Zschopau, which rises on the Fichtelberg and has been flowing in a northerly direction with a greater gradient since the uplift of the Ore Mountains block in the Tertiary period, and flows into the Freiberg Mulde near Döbeln. Steep, often bizarre rock faces are created on steep slopes by the increased flow speed. The most impressive formation is probably an overhanging cliff.

Burg Wolkenstein, commonly called Schloss Wolkenstein, is a high medieval castle in the town of Wolkenstein in the Erzgebirge district in Saxony (Germany). Since 1963 there is u. a. the Selva Castle Museum.

I visited the castle on a via ferrata tour. Well restored, not too built up.
