Great place to cool off

Since 1416 the village belonged to the possessions of the monastery Roggenburg. After the Thirty Years' War, Abbot Franz Doser had the church rebuilt while retaining the old saddle tower and the Gothic choir. However, the relationship between the Nattenhauser and the authorities rarely seems to have been free of tension. In the 18th century, there were such disputes with the learned and art-loving Abbot Georg Lienhart of Roggenburg that he only referred to his subjects as the "arch ruffians" and exchanged Nattenhausen for the town of Wallenhausen when the opportunity arose.
