Impressive castle complex, especially when you first saw it from the valley. Unfortunately not always accessible.

A little below the Plateau you will pass this vantage point of Drachenburg Castle on the way. The view of the (almost kitschy) castle with the Rhine and the Bonn skyline in the background is great. Photos from the small platform almost automatically have postcard quality.

Our hike through the beautiful Siebengebirge was worth it for this fantastic view alone. Just enjoy!

A particularly beautiful view of the Siegtal!

The model shows it at its best, around 1300. You can see here that the castle complex consisted of four parts, namely the main castle, the outer castle, the old town and the new town. It is one of the largest castle complexes in western Germany.

If you don't want to take the train, you can also use the steep donkey path, but without a donkey 😉

The classic summit route to the Drachenfels is the donkey path. This steep path was probably already used in sections by Roman stonemasons. It leads from the Rhine promenade in Königswinter up to the Drachenfels. Traditionally, the higher-ranking men and women of the world let themselves be transported with a donkey. The donkey fountain at the beginning of the donkey path reminds of this.
