This church has chosen the Nativity of the Virgin Mary as its patron saint. While the biblical writings of the New Testament do not explicitly mention her birth, nor her parents, early apocryphal texts (those not included in the canon of the official Bible) identified Saint Anne and her husband, Saint Joachim, as her parents. The Church of Saint Anne—located on the Sea of Bethesda in Jerusalem—is considered the site of the Virgin Mary's childhood home. The Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Nativity of Mary on September 8, as do the Orthodox and Anglican Christians.

8月 22, 2025, Bründlkapelle
The Bründl Chapel in Groß Sierning, also called Mariabründl, was built at a spring that has long been believed to have healing powers. Pilgrims made pilgrimages here as early as the 19th century, and in 1914, the present chapel, built in the Neo-Gothic style with a tower, pointed arch windows, and barrel vault, was ceremoniously consecrated. Inside stands a simple lindenwood Madonna, accompanied by modern reliefs. Numerous legends surround the Bründl, such as the story of a blind shepherd who regained his sight through the water, or of farmers whose livestock were spared from epidemics by the spring water. Today, the chapel, surrounded by ancient chestnut trees, is a quiet place of contemplation.

5月 24, 2025, Pilgrimage Church of the Nativity of Mary (Wallfahrtskirche Maria Geburt)
According to legend, St. Gotthalm, a servant of St. Coloman, died in Mauer after 1012.[1] This circumstance drew pilgrims to Mauer, even after Gotthalm's body had been transferred to Melk. Nothing of the oldest church building remains today. This church may have been a wooden structure, as reported in the Vita Altmanni. The possessions of the Mauer parish were enlarged in the 14th and 15th centuries. The oldest part of the parish church probably dates from this time. The two side aisles were probably added around 1300. The high choir was not added until the late 15th century. The church was to be enlarged in the 15th century, but the Reformation thwarted further construction because the Lords of Albrechtsberg, who were among its patrons, had adopted the new doctrine. The late Gothic tower was built in the final construction phase. The old sacristy was built at the same time as the choir as an extension of the northern aisle. The church’s furnishings were renewed during the Baroque period.

5月 14, 2025, Bridge at the Mouth of the Pielach
A lot of money has been invested in cyclist safety here. The construction of the cycle path under the road bridge over the Pielach River has eliminated an accident hotspot. Years ago, road crossings were required here. However, caution is advised; the road is confusing, and the center line is there for a reason! A little further toward Melk, another underpass was built, eliminating a bottleneck and diverting cyclists from the next road junction.

The Marienkapelle in Hafnerbach consisted of a main room, a choir, an anteroom with entrance hall and gallery, and a two-storey gallery staircase that was added later. Its architectural models can be found in the Lower Austrian religious buildings of the first half of the 18th century. The elaborate chapel type indicates an important patron - Crescentia Countess of Montecassino (1705–1788). The chapel's inventory included an altar, two pictures and twelve chairs. The building was demolished in 1792, but the foundations were preserved. This was done not least as a lasting reminder of the church reform measures under Emperor Joseph II on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the diocese.

2月 24, 2025, Osterburg Castle Ruins (Haunoldstein)
The Osterburg castle ruins in Haunoldstein are picturesquely situated on a triangular rock plateau above the Pielach Gorge. Its origins date back to the late 12th century. The first documented mentions mention the Counts of Peilstein as owners, including Count Friedrich V, who died in the castle in 1209. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the complex was expanded several times, particularly by Rudolf Turso von Tiernstein (1405). Over the centuries, the castle changed hands several times, but fell into disrepair over time and is now a ruin. Despite its ruinous state, the Osterburg is a worthwhile destination. Visitors can explore the well-preserved remains of the walls and enjoy an impressive view of the surrounding landscape from there. The historic atmosphere and secluded location make it particularly attractive for history buffs and is worth a detour on the tour.

Lake Ebersdorf is a popular local recreation area with excellent water quality. It offers swimming, a large lawn, shady areas, wooden walkways, and a circular trail. Sports activities such as beach volleyball, soccer, and a high ropes course with a "flying fox" over the lake provide variety. The Haus am See, with its grilled specialties, and the See Side cocktail bar invite you to linger. The lake is freely accessible and free to use.

2月 22, 2025, Parish Church of St. Zeno, Hafnerbach
The Hafnerbach parish church, dedicated to Saint Zeno, is located in the market town of Hafnerbach. It was first mentioned in a document in 1248, when it was a branch church of St. Pölten. In 1260 it was elevated to an independent parish. The architecture of the church combines various styles. The choir is Gothic and has a cross-ribbed vault, while the nave is Baroque with a mirrored ceiling. Particularly noteworthy are the artistic stucco work from 1698 and the ceiling frescoes, which show scenes from the life of Saint Zeno.

It is considered to be the most important altar carving in Lower Austria in terms of art history - the Gothic carved altar in the Mauer parish and pilgrimage church. But its history is full of gaps and mysteries that will probably never be solved. The altar, which was created around 1510, is not found today in the east-facing apse of the church as usual, but immediately after the entrance on the left, on the north wall. "This probably stems from the Baroque period of art, when everything Gothic was literally pushed aside and replaced by something new," explains the parish priest of Mauer, Father Benno Maier. The wooden winged altar with its over 50 carved figures shows Mary with child and saints in the middle section, and the side wings depict scenes from the life of Mary, such as the Annunciation, the Visitation and the birth of Christ. At the top, the cross of Christ rises up into the "church sky".

In 1248 the church was mentioned in documents as a branch of St. Pölten and in 1260 it was elevated to a parish church. In 1361 the church became a sovereign church through an exchange. In 1529 the Turks caused damage. In 1633 the church belonged to the Hohenegg lordship. Since 1675 the church has served as the burial place of the Lords of Hohenegg and since 1845 as the burial place of the Montecuccoli family. The Romanesque church from the 13th century with a nave and choir has a sacristy added to the southwest of the choir, which was probably originally a separate building (as a charnel house or round church with an apse) on a horseshoe-shaped floor plan. The tower in the north was built around 1400. After the side entrances to the nave were bricked up, a vestibule was added to the tower around 1600, which today serves as the entrance to the organ gallery. The sacristy with oratory northeast of the choir was added at the end of the 17th century.
