Highly recommend going up through this path. Free, beautiful nature, steep but the best way to get up there. Get some good shoes if you can

The Church of St. Mary is located somewhat away from the main hustle and bustle of Sintra and, with its simple white facade and azulejos tiles, exudes a pleasant tranquility. Inside, you'll find a bright, uncluttered interior and a few lovely details to discover. Outside, the small square in front of the church invites you to take a short break before continuing uphill to the next highlights.

The ramp to the castle winds its way up the hillside in steep switchbacks, offering stunning views of Sintra and the surrounding hills. The ground is sometimes uneven and stony, but you're rewarded at the top with a truly majestic castle backdrop. It's the perfect place to catch your breath, take some photos, and then continue on to the Castelo dos Mouros.

From this stone bench, a tranquil and beautiful view of Sintra unfolds, nestled picturesquely among green hills and dense forests. As you rest here, the Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle stand prominently above the town, adding impressive accents to the landscape. The path along the ancient walls of the Moorish Castle (Castelo dos Mouros) leads directly across the impressively restored battlements of the medieval fortress. Between battlements, stone steps, and narrow passages, a spectacular panorama unfolds, encompassing Sintra, Pena Palace, and the surrounding hills. An absolutely captivating section that perfectly combines history, views, and adventure.

From this vantage point, a breathtaking view opens up of Pena Palace, which rises majestically above the forests of the Serra de Sintra. The yellow and red walls, towers, and domes create the impression of a fairytale castle emerging from the dense greenery. A magical moment that perfectly captures the romantic atmosphere of Sintra.
