The museum is very informative, and the open-air museum is even more so, all for 3.50. I can highly recommend a bush.

11月 18, 2024, Swimming Area at Groß Radener See
The Groß Radener See, also known as the Binnensee, is located about five kilometers northeast of Sternberg. The approximately 1200 meter long and up to 340 meter wide body of water is part of the Sternberg lake landscape. The lake is divided into a smaller western basin and a larger eastern basin. The water is very clear. The lake is connected to the Trenntsee and Großer Sternberger See via narrow passages. The Slavic castle of Groß Raden is located on a peninsula in the east of the lake. The northern shore is very steep, and this is also where the eponymous town of Groß Raden is located. The lake lies entirely within the city of Sternberg, but borders the municipality of Witzin on the southern shore. The transition to the Trenntsee is swampy. 11月 18, 2024, Slawenburg Groß Raden
The Groß Raden Archaeological Open-Air Museum is located a few kilometers north of the small town of Sternberg and about one kilometer northeast of the village of Groß Raden in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in a lowland area that borders directly on the Groß Radener Lake. The circular castle wall with a diameter of 50 meters, visible from afar, is located on an offshore peninsula. Extensive excavations took place here between 1973 and 1980 under the direction of Ewald Schuldt, during which the remains of a Slavic settlement from the 9th and 10th centuries were uncovered. The castle complex was reconstructed based on the excavations and set up as an archaeological open-air museum. Findings from the Slavic castle of Behren-Lübchin were also used. 11月 18, 2024, View of Güstrow Palace
The castle's special jewel can be admired in its ballroom. This is where people danced, dined and discussed politics. A lively red deer frieze from the time it was built has been preserved on the walls and the magnificent stucco ceiling is richly decorated with hunting scenes. 11月 18, 2024, View of Güstrow Palace
The castle museum houses an extensive collection of important paintings, impressive sculptures and precious small art from the Middle Ages from Mecklenburg and northern Germany in the vaults in the basement. In the ducal rooms on the upper floors, the splendor of the former princely residence is brought back to life with paintings and handicraft objects from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, magnificent art chamber pieces and valuable hunting and ceremonial weapons. 11月 18, 2024, View of Güstrow Palace
Güstrow Castle is one of the most important Renaissance castles in northern Germany. When the medieval predecessor was largely destroyed by fire over 400 years ago, the impressive residence was created in its current form. It combines Italian and French architectural elements with a typically northern European basic structure in a fascinating way. 10月 18, 2024, Gutshaus Zülow
In 1871, the well-known architect Martin Haller (who built the Hamburg town hall, among other things) built the manor house in the classical style for Johannes Hillmann. It was the center of a fairly large estate (513 hectares). After the fall of the Berlin Wall, it was a hotel for a few years; it is now privately owned.

10月 17, 2024, Ruchow Village Church
With the exception of the unusual tower, the Ruchow church is a true type of Mecklenburg fieldstone church from the time of the transition from the Romanesque to the Gothic style in the 13th century. The single-nave fieldstone building, built in 1234, is particularly impressive due to the wooden tower to the west, which has a pointed roof covered with larch shingles. The interior, including an organ, baroque altar and rich paintings, is also worth seeing. Why is the tower so high? Because otherwise the mill would have been higher! It is said: In Ruchow the devil is above the Lord. The mill is higher than the church.

10月 17, 2024, Dröger Kraug Rest Area
The "Dröge Kraug" (dry inn) at this crossroads was a resting place for forest workers and carters a long time ago. They would probably have wanted a pub (tavern) at this point. The old paths are already visible on the Schmettauschen map from 1794. According to this, old highways crossed here. There is a saying about the Drögen Kraug: "If you want to drink and you don't have anything, you should go back. This is the Dröge Kraug. If you have something by you, you can sit back and it's only an hour away. Nothing will bother you in the long run here"
