The transformation is almost unbelievable – since 1987, the citizens of Deckenpfronn have been sitting for joyful celebrations or listening to concerts in the very same place where their ancestors once had to deliver the already meager harvest from their gardens and fields to the authorities during the summer and autumn. Two large gates mark the uniqueness of this building in the Gäu community of Deckenpfronn: gates through which the tithes were once brought in, to be stacked up to the almost 15-meter-high gable. Despite all the poverty, which was only broken by a few wealthy local farmers, the harvest bounty seemed to increase in the late 18th century. The old tithe barn in the lower village became too small and was sold to a farmer. In 1807, the current tithe barn grew into a massive structure and several times its size. It remains impressive to this day: a surrounding wall, which has grown to one meter since its conversion into a community center, protects the valuable interior and, even in the hottest summer, makes visitors shiver when they head there for an evening concert.
