Today the railway line is rarely used by industrial rail traffic... the hiking trail runs directly alongside the track... If you're lucky, a train might just happen to pass by.

From the headland by the lighthouse, you have a magnificent view into the Kiel Fjord... there's always something going on on the water: huge cruise ships, small sailboats and water sports enthusiasts.

The railway line has no scheduled service. But occasionally, the railway still passes through here. These are locomotives traveling to the shipyards, the military base, or the MAK.

The route along the NOK is a clear recommendation. Good surface and always something to see.

The Kiel Canal connects the North Sea with the Baltic Sea. The foundation stone was laid in 1887 and the small double locks at Brunsbüttel and Holtenau were opened in 1895. The large double locks in Brunsbüttel and Holtenau were opened in 1914.
