The statue was made in 1883 by Friedrich Schierholz. It originally stood in front of the Vondelpark, since 2014 it has been in the Amsterdamse Bos. The statue represents the city of Amsterdam. She is sitting on a chair, in her left hand she holds a shield with the coat of arms of Amsterdam and with her right hand she invites walkers to come into the park.
