Pilgrimage Church of St. Walburga Built in 1628, this hall church replaced the castle chapel of the medieval, now ruined castle. Its two chapels, each with a semicircular apse and attached to the nave to the north and south, give it the appearance of a cruciform church. The church tower, topped with a pointed spire, stands in the corner of the southern chapel and the retracted, three-sided choir to the east. The church was partially destroyed and its furnishings looted twice: in 1556 during the Reformation and in 1627 during the Thirty Years' War. The citizens of Cham rebuilt the destroyed parts in 1832. The interiors of the nave and the chapels are covered with flat ceilings, and the interior of the choir has a lunette vault. The three neoclassical altars are in the form of aedicules. The three altars date from around 1840. The altarpiece on the high altar is a copy of the "Walburga drapery" on the Chammünster altar. Three high-quality oil paintings and a collection of nearly 200 votive tablets surrounding an altar-like structure in the right-hand side circular panel are worth seeing. Parish Church of St. Peter and Paul The first documented mention of the parish itself appears in 1326 in the parish register of the Diocese of Regensburg as "Lengnaw". The church, a predecessor of the current church, stood in the same place as today and was also facing east. In the Thirty Years' War, the church and the rectory were burned down by Swedish troops in 1633 and then lay in ashes for 33 years. It was not until 1668/69 that a new wooden rectory was built, which stood for exactly 200 years before the current buildings of the rectory were rebuilt as a large four-sided courtyard in 1869/70. Together with the wooden rectory, the parish church was also rebuilt in the Baroque style from 1668 onwards and has been spared further destruction to this day. In 1895 there was a major renovation of the entire church complex in Chamerau and in 1959 and 1960 the modern octagonal extension was added to the southwest. The dominant feature is the high altar - a total work of art by the Kötzting sculptor and painter Johann Paul Hager, who worked in the Baroque period. In the center is a replica of the Mariahilf miraculous image by Lucas Cranach. The wooden main altar is very wide to accommodate the four altar guards. The two outermost of the almost life-sized figures represent St. Joachim and St. Anne, the parents of Mary. Closer to the middle are the figures of the church patrons, St. Peter and Paul. Above everything sits God the Father in a halo of rays and the Holy Spirit is depicted as a dove. The left side altar shows Jesus' foster father, St. Joseph, framed by St. Florian (left) and the plague saint St. Sebastian (right). The right side altar is dominated by the painting of the Immaculata, flanked by St. Barbara (left) and St. Apolonia (right). The large ceiling fresco in the choir with its complicated frame with several curves shows the stoning of St. Stephen, which was created by the Kötzting painter Heinrich Osterer in the 19th century. Fatima Chapel The Fatima Chapel on Gillisberg was consecrated to the Mother of God Mary by Pastor Josef Schlosser on August 13, 1966 and is intended to commemorate the secrets of Fatima.
