A year later, and in similar condition. There are a couple of broken windows (they look like they were cracked by a rock, I imagine by the same idiot who wrote his name on the wall) :( But they do their job.

Clean shelter in good condition for spending a summer night, but a few kilometres away there is the Rambla Seca shelter which is much better. Currently it has a broken window (without frame or glass) and the water pump is broken.

I have not seen anywhere a ban on riding a BBT as indicated by Kamhot, I met the guard at the Banderillas refuge and he told me that the ban only affects motor vehicles. So I did not commit any offence, the same if someone goes up on an electric bike...

On the Banderillas rope you will find two small shelters, one larger and the other small. Both are used by checkpoints for fire surveillance. They are free and open access. They have a fireplace, but no water.

Its name is actually “Refugio Cañada Humosa”

It is a mountain refuge that is not always kept in good condition thanks to the lack of civility of some residents. It has a pump to extract water from a cistern that does not always work and does not usually have water, especially in times of drought. It is not recommended to drink that water.

A beautiful little refugio perched on top of a hill, exclusive to hikers and cyclists. Pump for water that was working in October 2023. Be aware that you might not be alone - we slept with 8(!) other hikers inside.

At 1710 meters, this refugio (shelter) stands at a lonely height in a beautiful spot in the Sierra. Inside the refugio is neatly maintained with bunk beds and outside you really imagine yourself in Spanish Lapland. A top place to stay overnight!
