The Albero del Capitano is a centuries-old holm oak in the Bosco delle Pianelle, a nature reserve located in the municipality of Martina Franca. It is one of the most impressive monumental trees in the area, with a height of about 20 meters and a diameter of more than 3 meters. It is located at the crossroads between the 5d Ciclamino and 5c delle Orchidee paths.

Path 7a del Carpino is a route inside the Bosco delle Pianelle and winds through holm oaks, hornbeams and fragni. Along the path you can see some coal and liming pits, evidence of ancient human activities in the woods. Joining up with path 7c, you cross an area with specimens of notably large fragni.

The Bosco delle Pianelle Visitor Center is located at the entrance to the almost 600-hectare Nature Reserve near Martina Franca. There is an information point, picnic areas, children's play areas, bicycle hire and a water fountain. From here you can start to follow one of the many paths of the Reserve.
