The Etang Saint-Ladre Nature Reserve in Boves is located near Amiens, in the Avre Valley, a tributary of the Somme River. In 1979, it became the first site in Picardy to be designated a state-owned nature reserve. The ecological management implemented since the 1990s has allowed the development of a complex mosaic of habitats, among the most representative of alkaline peatland systems, supporting characteristic, and often heritage, flora and fauna. #15 - Cathedral and Tourist Office Here the cathedral attracts everyone's attention! Like all visitors, Jules Verne admired the grandeur of this “magnificent example of 13th-century Gothic art,” as he wrote in An Ideal City. He also refers to it in The Secret of Wilhelm Storitz: “The cathedral [...], a 13th century building that mixes Romanesque and Gothic styles. However, this cathedral has beautiful parts that deserve the attention of connoisseurs: its facade framed by two towers, its spire located in the transept, three hundred and fifteen feet high, its central portal with very elaborate arches, its large rose window through which the rays of the setting sun and from which the large nave is largely illuminated, and finally its rounded apse between the numerous buttresses. Notre-Dame Square has changed over the centuries and through numerous events. It does not resemble what Jules Verne knew in the 19th century, with its old houses and a small square in front of the building. After the Second World War, houses reminiscent of the shapes and decorations of the 13th-century houses were built opposite the cathedral, and the square was enlarged. Nowadays the tourist office is also located here. Source: https://www.amiens.fr/Grands-projets/Aronnax/Etapes/etape-15/Cathedrale-et-Office-de-Tourisme-allemand

#13 - The readers of Jules Verne Jules Verne was not always recognized as a writer! In his day, the scholarly aspect of his novels led some critics to claim that they were not literature. Then they were labeled as youth books. However, Jules Verne and his publisher Hetzel intended to appeal to a wide readership, both parents and young people. Instilling in everyone the pleasure of adventure and the exotic, they shed light on the discoveries and great events of their time. Only in the 20th century, after the death of Jules Verne and the disappearance of the Hetzel publishing house, which was bought by Hachette, did this misunderstanding arise, since Jules Verne's novels were only available in the "Green Library". Today the work of Jules Verne is equated with that of the great writers of the 19th century and is considered full literature. "Since I love walking in Amiens and diligently visiting the nearby theater, I would certainly have appreciated this playground, installed here since 2019 and inspired by my novels."
