#13 - The readers of Jules Verne

Jules Verne was not always recognized as a writer! In his day, the scholarly aspect of his novels led some critics to claim that they were not literature. Then they were labeled as youth books. However, Jules Verne and his publisher Hetzel intended to appeal to a wide readership, both parents and young people. Instilling in everyone the pleasure of adventure and the exotic, they shed light on the discoveries and great events of their time.
Only in the 20th century, after the death of Jules Verne and the disappearance of the Hetzel publishing house, which was bought by Hachette, did this misunderstanding arise, since Jules Verne's novels were only available in the "Green Library".
Today the work of Jules Verne is equated with that of the great writers of the 19th century and is considered full literature.
