Canovasee Natural Swimming Pool The Canovasee is located in the Graubünden municipality of Domleschg between the two villages of Almens and Paspels. The lake belongs to the Canova estate and is privately owned. The bathing lake is located in the castle and fruit region of Domleschg; it is romantic and warm, with a water temperature well over 20 degrees in summer. A visit can be easily combined with a walk to Almens, which promises a unique view of the Heinzenberg. The bathing area has a large lawn, two barbecue areas, changing rooms and toilets. The bathing season begins at the beginning of May. The kiosk sells ice cream and drinks, hot dogs, regional sausages for grilling, homemade baked goods and various sweets. The bathing lake is located at an altitude of 777 meters above sea level and is almost 200 meters long and 100 meters wide. From the "Paspels Dorf" bus stop, Lake Canova can be reached in about 10 minutes on foot. Car drivers will find parking directly at the village schoolhouse (limited number). Opening Hours: Season starts: May 1, 2024 Season ends: October 13, 2024 Monday to Friday 10:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Saturday + Sunday 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Text / Source: Canovasee Natural Swimming Pool, Gut Canova, 7417 Paspels https://canovasee.com/

Splügen is at its most beautiful up here, so the vertical meters are definitely worth it! In 1995, Splügen received the Wakker Prize for preserving the old village center.

7月 3, 2022, Sufers Village
Sufers in the Rheinwald Sufers (Romansh Sur) is a political municipality in the Viamala region. The village was first mentioned in documents in 831 as Subere. Ten years later, Emperor Lothar founded a church there. At that time, the outer Rheinwald, like the neighboring Schams, was populated by Romansh. Since the Walser colony of the inner valley (Nufenen and Hinterrhein) expanded to Sufers around 1300, German has been the main language. In the Three Leagues, the town belonged to the Grey League as a neighborhood of the Rheinwald court. The economic basis was agriculture (livestock breeding and modest arable farming) and, since the 15th century, pass traffic over the Splügen and San Bernardino passes. At times, iron ore was mined in the Suretta valley and smelted in the Schmelzi at the mouth of the valley. During the Second World War, the Sufers barrier was built north and east of Sufers. Splügen, Romansh Spleja/Spligia The towns in the Rheinwald, which were originally located in Romansh-speaking areas, were settled in the late 13th century by German-speaking Walsers from the south via the San Bernardino Pass. From the late Middle Ages to the 19th century, the transport of goods was the main source of income for the local population; most of them lived directly or indirectly from the muleteering trade. In 1716, the village of Splügen was largely destroyed by fire. It was rebuilt on the remaining foundations. A second fire in 1751 cost six families their possessions. From 1818 to 1823, the mule tracks over the Splügen and the San Bernardino Pass were almost simultaneously expanded into so-called commercial roads, which led to an upswing in the transit of goods and people. The reason was the rivalry between Piedmont and Austrian Lombardy, so that Lombardy expanded the Splügen Pass on its own account, while Piedmont only had to participate in the Graubünden project - a brief landmark was the bridge south of San Bernardino dedicated to King Vittorio Emanuele. The project for a rail link through Graubünden had been moved to the Lukmanier Pass and was subject to the Gotthard Railway. With the opening of the Gotthard Tunnel in 1882, many locals lost their job and earning opportunities; the transport of goods fell from 14,000 tons to 1,000 tons within a short time. Many emigrated and sought their fortune in the USA or New Zealand. At the time of the Second World War, there was an intention to submerge Splügen, Medels and Nufenen in a huge reservoir. The 700 meter long and 150 meter high dam would have been built near the Splügen castle ruins; a smaller dam near Sufers. Strong opposition from the population prevented the project. On November 29, 1946, the Rheinwald reservoir project was rejected by the Federal Council after years of legal disputes. During the Second World War, the Splügen barrier was built in the village and near the castle. A new chapter in the history of the pass village of Splügen began in 1967 with the opening of the road tunnel. Text / Source: Wikipedia https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spl%C3%BCgen_GR

7月 3, 2022, Village Church of Medels im Rheinwald
Medels in the Rheinwald (German also Mädels; Romansh Medel (Valrain)) Romans from the Schams originally used the place as an alpine area. Around 1300, mainly Walsers immigrated from the Italian Pomat (Val Formazza). Until 1277, Medels was under the protection of the Barons of Sax-Misox, after which it came into the possession of the Barons of Vaz.
