The Église St Léger in Cléty is a Catholic church located in the heart of the village, surrounded by a cemetery1. The church is of simple design, with a single nave and a semicircular apse2. It dates from the 16th or early 17th century and has a tower built in 1662 or 16651. The church has a benitier with a basin in brown marble in Louis XV style, a 0.68 m wooden statue from the 16th century of Sainte Anne, the Virgin and the Child Jesus, and a staircase to the top of the tower where a bell can be seen - there used to be two - with a diameter of 1.10 m, cast by Pierre Voulemin in 1678 and donated by Mary, wife of Adrien de Mames (Mametz), lord of Cléty

Museum on the ruins of the Confoss mill, explains papermaking, from its first beginnings in China to the modern paper industry. It also organises exhibitions on paper and cardboard. In the workshop, visitors can make a sheet of paper themselves to the rhythm of the paddle wheel.

The story of Esquerdes is linked to the development of two large paper and gunpowder industries, which developed from the time of Louis XIV to the 19th century and which led to a large population growth. In 1790, the town was large enough (with 500 inhabitants) to be named the capital of the canton. About two hundred years later, this figure had more than tripled. The church of St.Martin, dating from the twelfth century. The remains of a fifteenth-century chateau. The old paper mill, still working in a small capacity. The gunpowder factory.

It is a former French gunpowder factory that was founded in the 17th century by the “Régie Royale des Poudres et Salpêtres” under Louis XIV to supply the army with gunpowder and to meet certain civilian needs. The factory closed in 1972 and has been abandoned since then. The site is polluted by large quantities of nitrates that remain in the soil. The area is now a protected nature reserve and is open to the public

Paper has been produced in this village in the Aa valley since 1473. There are still several paper factories.
