The Hem is a small river in Northern France. It rises in Surques, flows through Licques, Tournehem-sur-la-Hem, and flows into the Aa at Hennuin. The most important tributaries are the ruisseau de Loquin, the ruisseau de Sanghem, the ruisseau de Licques and the ruisseau de Bainghen.

Tournehem-sur-la-Hem (Dutch: Doornem) is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region in northwestern France. The commune is part of the arrondissement of Saint-Omer.

**The Moulin de l'Aile de Saint-Omer, formerly located in the Marais de l'aile (in the Marais audomarois was built in 1866. The mill was used to manage the waters of the marsh by draining them using its Archimedes screw. ** Several mills existed, located on dikes, this made it possible to maintain a water level favorable to the cultivation of vegetables between March 1st and November 1st of 50 ha of Marais audomarois. Heavily damaged at the end of the 40s due to a storm, it was later dismantled. It was in 2013 that it was reassembled identically opposite the Maison du Marais de Saint-Omer, at Port au lait battu. It was restored by the Regional Association of Friends of Mills.

A beautiful climb but rewarded by the panorama

The town hall was built between 1834 and 1841 with materials from the church of the Abbaye de Saint-Bertin. At the heart of the building is an Italian-style theatre. The Hôtel de Bailliage is a former royal court that was outside the power of the aldermen. It is an elegant Louis XIV building, decorated with pilasters, Doric capitals, ironwork and floral garlands. Four statues on the balustrade symbolise the cardinal virtues.
