    Il lago Rudyard è infatti un bacino artificiale, costruito nel 18° secolo per alimentare il canale Caldon. Divenne un centro ricreativo grazie alla North Staffordshire Railway, che avrebbe portato escursionisti in questo bellissimo posto. Ancora oggi, una serie di attività si svolgono su e intorno al lago.

    Nel 1863, due visitatori furono così presi dalla sua bellezza che chiamarono il loro figlio dal nome del lago. Il figlio era Rudyard Kipling, il famoso autore che ha continuato a scrivere il Libro della giungla e l'uomo che vorrebbe essere re.
