Kasteel Rechteren is a historic Dutch castle located southeast of Dalfsen, in the picturesque province of Overijssel, Netherlands. Standing at an elevation of approximately 7 meters, this remarkable landmark holds the distinction of being the only medieval castle in Overijssel that has survived to this day. Uniquely situated on an island within an old arm of the Overijsselse Vecht river, the castle is surrounded by an extensive estate of about 1,200 hectares, featuring diverse landscapes of farmlands, forests, and heathlands.

Nel XIII e XIV secolo qui sorgeva un famigerato castello di cavalieri predoni. Il residente più famoso fu Sweder van Heeckeren, un autentico cavaliere brigante. Tutti nella zona dovevano stare attenti a lui. Intraprese incursioni in tutta la regione e non fu facile fermarlo.
Nel 1361 le città di Zwolle, Kampen e Deventer ne ebbero abbastanza. Volevano porre fine alle sue incursioni. Ma Sweder non si arrese facilmente, reagì con grande forza e diede addirittura fuoco alla periferia di Zwolle.
