    In questa posizione, il Dyle attraversa le mura della città vecchia. Nel 15° secolo, qui sullo Zandpoortvest fu costruito un imponente complesso con 7 mulini ad acqua.     Lo Spuihuis o Volmolen è un ex mulino ad acqua ai margini del centro storico di Mechelen. Il mulino fu costruito sulla grande chiusa del Dyle e la sua funzione era di regolare il livello dell'acqua del Binnendijle. Il mulino ad acqua alimentava anche diversi mulini. Dell'ampio complesso di mulini in questo sito, esistono ancora solo lo Spuihuis e il Molenhuis del XVI secolo. È un monumento protetto.

    Nel periodo 1537-1549 almeno quattro donne furono giustiziate come eretiche allo Spuihuis. Questi anabattisti furono cuciti in una borsa e gettati nel Dyle al mulino ad acqua e annegati.
