A metà del XIX secolo, il castello divenne famoso a causa di una lunga battaglia legale per il divorzio tra il suo allora proprietario. Il parco del castello, esteso su circa 19 ettari, progettato dall'architetto di giardini Maximilian Friedrich Weyhe come giardino paesaggistico all'inglese, è oggi un'area ricreativa accessibile al pubblico.
Una reliquia ben conservata è l'ex padiglione del giardino, che oggi ospita un monumento dedicato al politico Ferdinand Lassalle.
