The Rennsteig trail can be easily started from Hörschel train station. Trains run hourly in the direction of Eisenach and Bebra.

The train station itself isn't really a tourist attraction. But it's a good starting point for hikes to the Rennsteig trail or the Werra Valley, or up to the slopes of Stedtfelder Berg (there's a distant view of Wartburg and the Groß Inselsberg, seemingly one behind the other).
Visible from the platform is the geological monument: a basalt fissure that has formed into the surrounding shell limestone.
