Vandring
Gerhard Brandes was born on July 7, 1923 in Frankfurt an der Oder. After studying at the art academy in Berlin under Wilhelm Gerstel and in Vienna from 1943, he studied from 1945 to 1949 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg in the sculpture class of Edwin Scharff and Gerhard Marcks. After the end of the Second World War, he settled in Hamburg-Blankenese. From 1950 onwards he worked as a freelance artist.
