Today we hiked my absolute favorite trail from Adelsborn to the Kanstein. This trail is a highlight in every season. We've hiked it in every season already.

Worbis: Eichsfelder Kirchen am Wegesrand
Auf dem Gelände des 1540 aufgelösten Zisterzienserinnenklosters errichteten Mönche 1667 eine Holzkapelle. Die Kirche wurde von 1670-1677 erbaut und ist eine der stilvollsten Kirchen des Eichsfeldes. Die mächtige Halle der Kirche wird von einer gewölbten Decke ohne Pfeiler überspannt. Der prächtige Hochaltar mit seinen Seiten- und Nebenaltären, die Kanzel und die Beichtstühle zeigen die für die Barockzeit typischen reichen Verzierungen. An der Rückwand des Schiffes erhebt sich die Orgelempore, die 1697 fertiggestellt und 2011/12 umfangreich rekonstruiert wurde. Sie war die erste und größte dreimanualige Orgel Mitteldeutschlands nach dem 30-jährigen Krieg.

Today we hiked the Sielmann High Trail under challenging conditions.
In some sections, we broke trail .
However, the snowy landscape was mostly pristine and wonderful to behold.
It would have been even more beautiful with sunshine 🌞. But you can't have everything.

Am Möhnestausee
Die aus Bruchsteinen erbaute Staumauer ist die Hauptattraktion des Möhnesees und bereits über 100 Jahre alt. Im Jahr Ihrer Einweihung war sie die größte Stauanlage in Europa. Während des Zweiten Weltkrieges wurde die Mauer durch einen britischen Bombenangriff zerstört. Durch die Flutwelle, die sich über die Möhne bis weit ins Ruhrtal ergoss, kamen fast 1600 Menschen ums Leben. Der Wiederaufbau konnte schon am 3. Oktober 1943 abgeschlossen werden.
