Set in the stunning location of Abbey Island, Derrynane Abbey is thought to date from the 6th century, founded by St Finnan. Although it is now in ruins, it is an evocative place set against wild Atlantic views, golden sand, clear waters and mountain views. The graveyard is still in use and it is tradition for the coffin to be carried across the sand at low side. Mary O'Connell, Daniel O'Connell's wife, is buried here.
