Since the autumn of 1988, the Bamberg District Association for Horticulture and Land Conservation has maintained a fruit plantation near Lauf, market town of Zapfendorf. 200 different apple and pear varieties thrive on two meadow orchards, a contribution to the preservation of historical fruit varieties.
A meadow orchard educational trail established in 2012 connects the two meadow orchards. The approx. 2.5 km long nature trail with 8 stations begins at the parking lot near the FC Lauf sports grounds.
