About Maurice Brocco 400
June 26th is the anniversary of the death of Maurice Brocco called Coco, a early to mid 20th century road racer after whom the Leipzig based cycling project is named. In 2021 "MB400" will start off on the 26th of June. As the coming year is still an unwritten book, we'll have to see what mode we can offer, but for now we assume we will at least be able to offer some form of MB400. My first MB400: the excitement was great. Since I could hardly sleep at night, I started earlier than expected at 3:00 a.m. - a good decision. The sunrise was enjoyed and he reached the first checkpoint full of joy. There an old man in a bathrobe spoke to me about what this meant. It went like clockwork up to Cottbus and the gardener at the velodrome also asked if everything was going well. A short time later a record - the first this year. A battle with the rim and the jacket began. Then in the bike shop to get enough cash back on the tire. Now it got a bit windy and hilly, but the landscape was a dream. I almost missed the third checkpoint on Hasenberg, but of course I won't let anyone take the steep ramp there. Then in Meißen the moment of shock, the Wahoo had crashed. Fortunately, the route could be restored. Checkpoint number 4 was my highlight. After a short search you were greeted by very nice people in a relaxed, rural setting. After a magnificent sunset, I was able to watch the lights of the combine harvesters in the fields. Since all gas stations and supermarkets were now closed, I had to be content with the few remaining reserves. The last few kilometers were tough, but the backpack with experiences and impressions was definitely worth it. Super nice route and well-chosen checkpoints!
