"A country. One way. ”That is the motto of the 75-kilometer Lichtenstein-Weg. The long-distance hiking trail connects all eleven municipalities of Liechtenstein and gives you the most intensive insight into the Principality of Liechtenstein. On your way from south to north (or vice versa) you can expect exciting stories, great sights, wonderful views and idyllic resting places.Your hiking adventure starts in the Swiss border near Balzers, the end point is in Schaanwald on the Austrian border. You can divide up the long-distance hiking trail the way that suits you best - or you can just choose individual stages. Entry or exit of the path is possible at any time. In the individual municipalities you will find connections to public transport, restaurants and accommodation. Here is a suggestion for a possible division:
Stage 1: From Balzers to Triesenberg (14 kilometers)
Stage 2: From Triesenberg to Vaduz (10 kilometers)
Stage 3: From Vaduz to Nendeln (17 kilometers)
Stage 4: From Nendeln to Ruggell (15 kilometers)
Stage 5: From Ruggell to Schaanwald (19 kilometers)
You can find all information about the individual stages in this collection: komoot.de/collection/1171999/liechtenstein-weg-auf-5-etappen-durch-das-fuerstentum

In three stages, the Liechtenstein-Weg leads you from south to north through the small principality. If you want, you can drive the 85 kilometers over two days. You will discover the most beautiful places and the most interesting highlights - from viewpoints over river banks to castles. You start at the border stone Switzerland-Liechtenstein near Balzers. From there you drive to the center of the village, where Gutenberg Castle awaits you. From the castle hill you can enjoy a wide view over the green plain. Then you follow the old road along the Rhine to Triesen. On the way you can visit the Lawena Museum and the town of Triesen also has a lot to offer - here you can take a break in one of the restaurants or cafés.A wide view awaits you at the St. Marmeten Chapel before the route begins to climb. Sometimes it goes steeply up the Wangerberg to the Walser village of Triesenberg. If you have electrical assistance, now is the time to turn it on.In the village center you have the opportunity to visit the Walser Museum or to stop off at an inn. You pass Rotenboden and then there is a rapid descent down to Vaduz Castle, the landmark of Liechtenstein and residence of the princely family. Accompanied by wonderful views, you finally jet down to the traffic-free Vaduzer Städtle, the destination of the first stage.

The second stage starts in the center of Vaduz with its historical buildings and many museums. At first you cycle south until you turn to the Rhine. There the old Rhine bridge awaits you, which has spanned the river and at the same time the border to Switzerland since 1871.You drive a bit along the Rhine, then the first ascent of the day follows: You step up to the rest area on the bee nature trail, where you have earned a break. Then you follow the path to the lively village center of Schaan, which is known for the Demmel coffee roastery. From Schaan, it's about four kilometers up to Planken. When you arrive in the smallest municipality in Liechtenstein, you have a fantastic view of the valley and the surrounding mountains. On the same path it then goes back to Schaan and on dirt roads to Nendeln. After you have passed through the small town, you cycle to Eschen. The idyllic wineries there invite you to linger and try. The route then follows the historic Höhenweg, which once again gives you impressive views, all the way to Bendern. The second stage of the Liechtenstein Trail ends there on the Kirchhügel on the border with Switzerland.

Bendern is the starting point of the final stage of the Liechtenstein Trail. First you drive briefly along the Rheindamm and then turn off to the Grossabünt bathing lake in Gamprin. On hot days you can cool down here and refresh yourself for the following kilometers. From Gamprin it goes past meadows and forests to Ruggell, the northernmost municipality in Liechtenstein. After you have crossed the place, you follow the parallel trench northwards. Then you come very close to the Austrian border and pedal on flat paths through beautiful meadows. After a good 13 kilometers, the crisp driveway up to Schellenberg awaits you: the beads of sweat are worth it, because once you reach the top, you can see as far as Lake Constance. You can also visit two castle ruins, Alt- and Neu-Schellenberg.From Schellenberg, accompanied by great views, it goes steeply down to the village center of Mauren. Then you get to Schaanwald via dirt roads and side roads, where the Liechtenstein Trail ends at the border with Austria. Here you will find a connection to the bus network and a few kilometers further, in Nendeln, to the train network.

You can imagine - five castles and fortresses await you on this 48-kilometer round tour. They are within sight of each other on hills and on mountain slopes and will take you back in time. The starting point for the castle tour is Vaduz, the capital of the Principality of Liechtenstein. From the car-free small town with its romantic alleys, you first step up to Vaduz Castle. After the first ascent, you've earned a cooling descent. On the shady Quadretschaweg you jet back into the valley. You leave Schaan on the right and soon cross the Rhine on the energy bridge. You are already in Switzerland and cycling through Buchs. Then it goes south again. After Sevelen it gets sweaty again, unless you have electrical support in your luggage: With a view of the Brochne ruins, you step up to the Wartau ruins. You deserve a break at the rest area in the shadow of the mighty castle tower. This is followed by the descent down to the banks of the Rhine. In Sargans, it is worth making a detour to the castle of the same name before you drive back to Liechtenstein. The last castle on this round is in Balzers. You can see the tower of Gutenberg Castle from afar and the castle café invites you to take a break. On the inland canal it goes back to the starting point in Vaduz.

Here, too, the title already reveals what awaits you on this tour: Thanks to the compact size of the principality, you can explore three countries in no time. The picturesque old town of Vaduz is the starting point and destination of this tour. From the little town you go northwards past fields and meadows for the first time - you can only see Schaan and Eschen from a distance. You cycle very relaxed on flat paths to the Egelsee near Mauren, which marks the transition to Austria. At Feldkirch in the state of Vorarlberg you will reach the banks of the Ill, which you will follow for the next few kilometers. With a view of the water, the three-country tour takes you through the Rote Aue conservation area.At the Illspitz, the Ill flows into the Rhine and you can enjoy fantastic views of the landscape on the border between Austria and Switzerland. You pass this immediately on a bridge and can then take a detour up to the Blatten ruins. After a break at the castle ruins, let yourself be guided by the Rheintaler inland canal to Sennwald. This is followed by a section over wide fields before you reach Buchs with Werdenberg Castle. The view from the Schlossberg to the Werdenbergersee is simply wonderful. At Buchs you will meet the Rhine again, which you cross on a suspension bridge. You are already back in Liechtenstein and cycle back to Vaduz along the river.

On the 35-kilometer Rhine Valley Tour you will cross the entire length of the Principality of Liechtenstein. With more than 1,000 meters of altitude to be mastered, the best thing to do is to use electrical support or to train your calves properly.Balzers, in the southern Liechtenstein Oberland, is the starting point for this tour along the Rhine Valley and welcomes you at the beginning with the beautiful Gutenberg Castle. After a short stop, the first ascent is not long in coming and is just a foretaste of the next mountain. You reach the Lawenamuseum and then step in serpentines up to Triesenberg. It goes steadily uphill in the forest, wide views over the entire principality compensate for the beads of sweat. Once in Triesenberg, you can visit the Walser Museum or fortify yourself in one of the inns. This is followed by an exhilarating descent down to the famous Vaduz Castle. Accompanied by wonderful views of the Rhine Valley, you cycle further north on forest paths. In Schaan you are finally back on the valley floor and you drive without inclines to Bendern. Passing Gamprin, the last few kilometers go through a gently undulating cultural landscape to Ruggell, the destination of the Rhine Valley Tour.

You first have to earn your delicious Käsknöpfle and your fresh beer on this tour: A crisp ascent up to the Pfälzerhütte including fantastic valley views awaits you. You start in Steg and initially pass the reservoir before you head into the valley on the rushing Valünerbach. A wide gravel path leads you to the rustic Alp Valüna, which invites you to take a first break. With new strength in your calves, you tackle the climb up to the Pfälzerhütte. For the first few meters you step up the slope parallel to the stream. Then the path becomes steeper and steeper and you reach the tree line.At the uncultivated Alp Gritsch you can take a well-deserved break before you follow the tight curves further up. The ascent shortly after passing the Gritscher alpine huts is demanding and is rewarded with an impressive mountain panorama. The air is getting thinner and thinner and then you've made it: You reach the picturesque Pfälzerhütte at 2,108 meters on the border with Austria. If you can't get enough of the fantastic view, just spend the night in the hut and save the descent along the same route for the next day.

Three crystal clear mountain streams characterize the Valorsch Tour, on which you can take a lap around the 2,104 meter high Schönberg. You can also expect a crisp ascent, which you can take the edge off with electrical assistance. From the Walser settlement of Steg, the route initially leads northwards parallel to the Samina stream. You follow the Valorschstrasse, a good drivable gravel road, through the forest. It goes steadily gently uphill and again and again the trees thin out and reveal fantastic views. From the Samina stream you change to the Valorschbach, which now gives you the direction. After a good six kilometers through a lonely landscape you cross the water and then the path begins to climb. In addition, the ground changes - the wide gravel path turns into a narrow trail. Skill and perseverance are required on this section. At the 1,785 meter high Sassfürkle you finally reach the highest point of the round tour. From the pass it goes rapidly downhill on a wide path into the valley. You pass a beautiful chapel and can look forward to incredible views of the mountains around Malbun. Along the Malbunbach, you cycle back on the road to the starting point in Steg.
