On this stage you cross the border with Austria again: from Slovenia you can reach Carinthia again via the Karawanken mountain range. The stage destination, the Baumgartnerhöhe, is located high above the turquoise Faaker See.

From the Rifugio Zacchi, the path leads under the peaks of the Ponte mountain chain to Monte Svabezza. Back in the valley you reach after the Weißenfelser lakes the border to Slovenia and the Sava valley, which the famous English chemist and scientist Sir Humphry Davy (1778 to 1829) described as follows: "I liked the Sava valley most with its waterfalls and lakes. I know nothing in Europe that would be more beautiful. "

The stage from Tarvisio to Rifugio Zacchi (Sanctuary of Zacchi) is characterized by the Monte Borgo trail to Coccau, then a section on an abandoned railway line, the fascinating high valley of the White Rocks (Laghi di Fusine) and the ascent to the Rifugio Zacchi. Depending on the season, the popular Weißenfelser Seen lakes offer a variety of light reflections of mountains and lakes at the foot of the mighty Mangart Group.

We expect a promising and varied stage far above the Mittlerer Mölltal: Old footpaths to mountain farms, a historic school route, some newer forest roads and as a highlight of the stage the legendary "runway" from the time of copper mining.

Between Valbruna and Tarvisio you will climb the 1,790 m high Monte Lussari mountain with its picturesque pilgrimage site. Back to the valley via a pilgrimage path, from Camporosso via the "Parko Cervi" game park along Monte Borgo to the center of the small town of Tarvisio with its Roman roots. Tarvis lies at the crossroads of three roads, hence the name (derived from tres viis or tres viae).

An impressive mountain backdrop characterizes this round trip: the cross-border hike takes you from the Carinthian side to the eastern Carnic Alps, to the foot of the striking Oisternig on the Feistritzer Alm. At about 1,700 m above sea level, this piece of untouched nature offers an ideal rest stop. In Italy it goes from the Achomitzer Alm down to the village Camporosso and continue to Valbruna, at the entrance of the Saisera Valley.

On historical footsteps it goes on this stage of Warmbad Villach from the Gailtal. Due to the contrast between the flat, wide valley floor and the partly rugged mountain slopes, we experience it particularly appealing. As a constant companion acts the 2,166 meter high Dobratsch, Carinthia's first nature park and springboard for thousands of wild birds on their way south. Just as paradisiacal as the area of the Schütt, an impressive witness to the landslide of 1348 and today home to rare animal and plant species.

After the first sunbeams have kissed us awake on the promising Baumgartnerhöhe, we take a deep breath and let our eyes wander over the turquoise shining Faaker See. Walking through the civilization, we explore the pristine nature reserve Faaker Moor and parts of the idyllic forest landscape called Dobrova. It draws us to where the Romans fueled their energy after a long journey - to Warmbad-Villach with its recently built KärntenTherme, in which we get energy for the next day.

The penultimate stage of the Alpe-Adria Trail, starting in Lipica in Slovenia, leads along the edge of the karst plateau along the Kokoš and Veliko Gradišče mountains and ends in Bagnoli della Rosandra on the outskirts of Trieste, where you can already smell the sea. Next to the horse stud Lipica is the beautiful Val Rosandra (Dolina Glinščice), a nature reserve with numerous natural beauties and cultural monuments, a highlight of this route. Here the karst plateau merges into the gentle coastal landscape nearby.
