This Tour leads you in a loop around Geraardsbergen. You cycle through the beautiful hills of the Flemish Ardennes, culminating in the illustrious Wall of Geraardsbergen. At the finish you will be rewarded with a regional specialty: mattentaart.Geraardsbergen is another bicycle paradise in Belgium. On the market square you will even find some charging points for your electric bike here. Geraardsbergen is the oldest city in Flanders. You can see that in the old architecture. From the central market square you drive towards Oudebergstraat. Here you immediately face a tough mission, namely climbing the Wall. This iconic 1.2-kilometer climb goes to a beautiful chapel atop a hilltop. Incline percentages of 20 percent and paved roads provide additional difficulty. The view from the top makes up for all the effort. The next part of the route goes along the river Dender. Here you can cycle the legs for a while while watching the inland ships passing by. The climbs start again at Deux-Acren.Via a few characterful villages you set course for Geraardsbergen. A visit to this city is not complete without tasting the matt cake. The recipe dates back to the 16th century and was created to use the overproduction of milk. Milk was allowed to separate into a kind of cheese, the so-called mats. The mats were ground and mixed with sugar, almonds and egg yolks and then baked in puff pastry. Enjoy your meal!

The Tour starts from Malmedy, the gateway to the High Fens and centrally located in the Ardennes. Via hilly roads cycle from cathedrals and monasteries to fabulous deciduous and spruce forests. The bike path RAVeL L45a directs you to the village of Montenau. This is a branch of the famous cycle route the Vennbahn. At the village of Waimes, the route turns into the Vennbahn. This is a well-known bicycle route that runs from Aachen to Troisvierges via an old train track. Along the way you will still recognize the necessary remains of the old industrial line. The road surface on this part of the route is excellent and the gradient percentages are not too bad. The average ascent on the first part of the route is only a few percent. Only when you leave the route of the Vennbahn, near Born, the climbs start to get a bit more vicious. Just before Born you pass an impressive railway bridge with arches. The scenery along the route is beautiful. The cycle path squeezes its way through the green and beautifully shaped hilly landscapes with numerous rivers. The way back continues to run through one beautiful landscape after another. Stopping now and then to look around is certainly not a bad idea. The finish is in Malmedy.
