Enjoy pedalling through the countryside between Braintree and Dunmow on this flat, predominantly traffic-free cycle route.

There's a mix of tarmac and light gravel trail as you take on the disused railway line. Adapt the length of your ride on this out-and-back by simply turning around when you've reached

A wonderfully long stretch of traffic-free trail, take on the whole Marriotts Way from Aylsham to the edge of Norwich or select a section for a peaceful family-friendly ride.

Pack a picnic for this ride as there aren't many opportunities to pick up food and drink along the way.

However, there are many

For residents of North East London, Epping Forest provides a wonderful oasis of calm. With miles upon miles of gently undulating gravel trails through the forest and past ponds and lakes, it's also a great destination for teaching your children how to cycle or working up to longer distances.

Starting from Moor Top car park, this is an excellent non-technical loop that visits Goosey Foot Tarn and Juniper Tarn, combining forest tracks with these man-made small bodies of water and even views of the sea.

The whole route is waymarked so it's super easy to follow, though there are still a few small hills along the way.
