Apart from the wrong date, (actually done on 10/8/2019) this was a great ride.
A slow start, Zac and I made our way to the start of the Albany Highway and met Shiva. There is a bike lane alongside Albany Highway with most of the cycleway separated from the pedestrians. Seem to work really well. And

A wee adventure, an easy ride from Huntly to Hamilton. The weather we wet when we left Auckland but we drove out of the rain... hoping it would stay dry for a decent length of time. It lasted maybe 5 minutes of riding and withing 20 minutes it was reasonably heavy.
The country is pretty easy rolling

This is the most interesting section of the Hauraki Rail Trail, taking in Karangahake Gorge, an old gold mining area and the steam train to Waihi. We rode Paeroa to Waikino then caught the train to Waihi, then rode back to the gorge.
The trail is hard packed and suitable for most bikes. It is very popular

This part of the Hauraki Rail Trail is flat and gravel. Most bikes would be OK, a skinny tire road bike will find some of the surfaces challenging. Mountain bikes, gravel bikes, touring bikes, etc are fine. There are multiple cattle grids, they look more challenging than they are and by the time you

Not sure what happened to my original commetns so I'll put them in again.
This was a bit of a shake down ride for the both of us. Zac hasn't ridden with a load yet so he's carrying the panniers. I've got about 15kg in the trailer.
The trailer is a BOB Ibex. It fits nicely on a 700c (and 29er) and has a
